Placing Carbon Back Into Our Soils

Experts will compare and contrast a number of tools and policies being considered by governments at the global, national, and state levels as ways to reduce atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations. These policies are designed to incentivize practices that farmers and ranchers can implement to reduce carbon emissions and place carbon back into their soils. The approaches include the United Nations’ “4 Per 1000 Initiative: Soils for Food Security and Climate,” the U.S. Clean Power Plan, Australia’s national carbon market, and California’s Healthy Soils Program, funded by cap-and-trade.
