Who we are: Green Mountain Farm-to-School (GMFTS) is a nonprofit organization promoting the health and well-being of Vermont's children, farms, and communities by providing programs to connect schools and farms through food and education. AmeriCorps members serve as the Farm-to-School Coordinator for 4-5 schools leading garden workshops, unit lessons, Taste Tests, Field trips, AfterSchool programs and events. AmeriCorps members plant, maintain, and harvest school gardens with students and volunteers. This positions work closely with staff, parents, food service directors, and farmers to coordinate programming at the schools. Members are part of team working to serve the NEK of Vermont.
Benefits - Full-time AmeriCorps members receive a Cost of Living Stipend of $21,000.00 for the year, Healthcare, set rate Mileage Reimbursement, and an Educational Award of $7395.00 at the end of service. GMFTS offers subsidized housing, an Automobile Equity Scholarship of $600.00 and many training opportunities.
Available to start August 21, 2023 and commit to serve until August 2, 2024 for a 1,700 hour term of Service with AmeriCorps/GMFTS. For this position GMFTS prefers a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, knowledge of local food systems and sustainable agriculture, some teaching (formal or non-formal) experience, strong interest in working with children, some knowledge of gardening and vegetable production, strong interpersonal skills, comfortable working in a kitchen (home or commercial), strong public speaking, writing skills, and organizational skills. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required. US Citizenship and background check required for this AmeriCorps position.
