Apple Seeds is a nonprofit Teaching Farm located in Fayetteville, Arkansas whose mission is to inspire healthy living through garden-based education. Through programs with schools, afterschool programs, and other partners, Apple Seeds reconnects students with where their food comes from and empowers them to make nutritious food choices.
Apple Seeds is looking for enthusiastic and committed individuals for the VISTA roles of Farm Lab Coordinator, Cooking in the Schools Coordinator, and Program & Volunteer Coordinator. Coordinate the educational programs; specific responsibilities include:
-Refine, develop, organize, and maintain in-person and virtual program materials to ensure relevance with current curriculum standards
-Manage communications, distribution, and tracking of in-person and virtual content, including the number of participating schools, students, and student demographics
-Oversee data collection, management, and analysis of pre and post surveys to measure the impact of programs
-Lead the facilitation of the program curriculum when students are at the Teaching Farm
-Budget, purchase and prep all materials and food to be used during the program
-Establish organizational capacity by supporting recruitment and training of volunteers to assist and lead the program
Build organizational capacity through outreach to new contacts at outreach events
Support garden tasks including harvesting and food distribution
Support all other Apple Seeds educational programs and fulfill additional duties as assigned
Be at least 18 years of age by the start date listed below
Have a valid U.S. driver’s license
Agree to and pass a criminal background check
Hold one of the following citizenship or legal residency statuses: US citizen, US National, Lawful Permanent Resident (i.e. Green Card status), and persons legally residing within a state. Examples of persons legally residing within a state may include those holding the following classifications: refugee, asylee, temporary protected status throughout VISTA service, and holding Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status.
Self-motivated; able to work and meet goals independently
Works well with many personality types and has a team player mentality
Skill in leading and guiding students with varying levels of knowledge and skills
Positive attitude and enjoys being around children
Strong oral and written communication skills
Experience in education, gardening, nutrition, or cooking is highly desirable
