Experienced Farm Manager Position available on 5 acre CSA farm in Central California. Responsibilities include overseeing and implementing daily agricultural activities at the farm which include operation of the CSA, managing the farm crew, crop planning, crop planting, crop maintenance, harvest, and post-harvest processing. Must be creative and efficient, organized and able to balance both production and finance schedules and deadlines. Should have excellent communication skills, a good attitude, and be physically capable of working long days and lifting 40+ lbs. A successful candidate will have experience with medium-to-large scale production, and be able to contribute ideas on how to expand and diversify the operation. This CSA provides product to about 40 members, sells at a local farmers market, engages in direct-marketing to local chefs, restaurants, and wineries. Located in the beautiful Central California wine country. Farm utilizes high tunnels and greenhouses to enable year-round production. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. At least temporary housing included. Potential for profit sharing based on sales goals and maintaining expense budget goals. The farm is CCOF certified organic. Duties include at least the following:
1.Supervise planting, weeding, irrigating and harvest of specialty crops and ensure weeding, thinning, pruning and feeding crops is maintained
2.Plan and implement harvest and planting schedules
3.Participate in the inspection, sorting, packaging, storage, and post-harvest treatment of crops Set up, operate, and repair irrigation equipment
4.Harvest crops by hand, plant seeds, or transplant seedlings by hand
5.Maintain and record information about crops, such as fertilizer use, yields, or costs for CCOF records
6.Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, and harvest crops
7.Operate small tools such as; skill saw, chainsaw, weed-eater, drill, pole pruners
8.Repair and maintain farm vehicles and mechanical equipment.
9.Perform miscellaneous maintenance and upkeep of the Farm Stand to include building repairs, fence and other structural repairs.
10.Prune fruit trees and brambles, and maintain fruit orchard..
Successfully operating a certified organic CSA.
Some farming experience is required and an ag degree helps.
