The Development and Communications Director (DCD) would refine and execute an annual fundraising and communications strategy while expanding SH’s support base, diversifying
sustainable funding streams, and engaging donors with our programs and services. The position will emphasize identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major donors, family foundations, state and federal opportunities, and partnerships. This position reports to the Executive Director (ED) and plays a key role within the leadership team in the accomplishment of SH’s ends policies. Theywill supervise a Development Associate and Communications Coordinator.
Evaluate the effectiveness of current funding programs and build strategies to maximize
resources
Work with the ED to develop annual fundraising goals and metrics
Maintain ongoing relationships with donors and key stakeholders and identify new individual, business, foundation, and government prospects
Establish new funding streams that support existing and new programming
Oversees all donor events working closely with ED and Event Production Coordinator
Organize and refine funder communications staying on top of trends and technology
Provide monthly reporting on metrics and individual engagement to ED and Board of Directors
Oversee grants program including grant docket, proposal, and budget development, grant compliance, and reporting, and supervision of Development Associate and/or grant writers
Build and manage development budget
Prioritize a Community Centric Fundraising philosophy and educate staff, volunteers, and partners about this approach
Display a deep understanding of SH’s mission, history, and current programs
Oversee SH communications strategy for the organization including all print, enews, social media, etc. providing relevant and timely content for target audiences
Oversee production of marketing materials building the Sierra Harvest brand
Serve as a spokesperson and public advocate for SH’s mission publicizing the mission, goals, activities, and impact of all programs

Must have a strong alignment with the mission of SH and the ability to communicate, motivate and inspire others about our work with passion
Willingness to contribute to creating an environment of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion through Community Centric Fundraising practices
Work experience that shows a deep understanding of relationship-based fundraising practices versus transactional
Demonstrated experience showing ability to attract, motivate, cultivate, and steward contributors of all resources including working with high net worth donors to secure major gifts
Excellent verbal and written communication, editing, and interpersonal skills
Ability to self-organize priorities and manage multiple projects and deadlines
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
Flexible mindset and innovative thinker
Willingness to engage in continuous learning and training
Requirements:
Thoroughly enjoy raising money and love to ask!
Proven fundraising track record
Experience developing and maintaining productive working relationships with staff, volunteers, board members, and donors
Applies professional discretion and maintains confidentiality
Knowledge of Donor Perfect Online or CRM software preferred
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Basic understanding of communications platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Canva, Crello, WordPress, Constant Contact, EventBrite
