4-H seeks a dynamic Development Director for Agriculture to contribute to the Resource Development (RD) fundraising goal that includes coordinated solicitation of grants ranging from $100K to $5M from major national corporations to support unrestricted operational efforts as well as major programmatic initiatives. The Director will be responsible for leading and positioning the Ag portfolio and will work within the strategic plan framework to advance National 4-H Council in thought leadership space working in coordination with the Executive Office. The Director will also work in partnership with the Senior Vice President (SVP) & Chief Development Officer (CDO), RD Leadership and Program teams to implement the RD team plan. Additionally, the Director will strategize and contribute in all areas of the RD team including planning, prospecting and cultivation, new business development, donor deliverables, board solicitation, and reporting.
Development Portfolio Duties
Responsible for securing and stewarding 10-15 major accounts ($5-7M+ per year) to achieve annual fundraising goals to support programmatic expansion in support of Positive Youth Development.
Drive new business development and build a development pipeline through prospecting and cultivation at conferences and other events.
Work in partnership with Trustees and Executive Team members to facilitate thought leadership opportunities and strategies for donor prospecting and cultivation.
Create and operationalize opportunities for workplace giving to drive individual giving at ag-related corporations.
Develop and maintain knowledge of corporate giving interests, staff and trends, particularly in the agriculture industry.
Collaborate with RD and Marketing teammates through cross-functional working groups.
Work with Board members to meet development goals with a focus on new business development.
Development-Program Collaboration and Staff Management Duties
Work with the research and corporate writer for high-quality prospecting and proposal development.
Partner with program, marketing, digital, account management and finance teams to develop integrated 360-degree proposals and meet deliverables.
Staff management of 1-2 direct reports.
As a team collaborate to ensure the growth of the portfolio while maintaining excellent donor cultivation and stewardship.
Strategic Communications Duties
Develop RD updates for the Board of Trustees in partnership with assigned program team, Senior Director, Corporate Development and the SVP/CDO.
Monitor activity via reports and frequent customer contact.
Develop and deliver formal performance reports to each assigned account at least once annually.
Lead and supervise other projects as required by Senior Director, Corporate Development.
Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, public administration, business administration, sales management, or related discipline, or equivalent in work experience. Master’s degree preferred.
10+ years’ experience in successful corporate or foundation fundraising with track record for packaging, building, and closing mutually beneficial programs that are multi-faceted and multi-year in nature.
Must have progressively responsible work experience in planning, managing, and initiating relationships between private and non-profit sectors, especially within the agriculture industry.
Demonstrated expertise working with high-level donor representatives and volunteer Board members is required.
Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) required.
Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge or equivalent fundraising/CRM software.
Must be able to perform in a team-oriented environment and have strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
Travel Requirements: Travel may be necessary, up to 20% of the time (5 days/month; local, regional & national). Would require travel by air, car, rail.
