Job Description:

Grace College invites applications and nominations for the full-time position of Director, Center for Sustainable Agriculture and Asst/Assoc. Professor of Agriculture. Located in the backyard of some of the most important ag-businesses in the country, the Center for Sustainable Agriculture was recently created through a Lilly Endowment grant to engage our students and community to help Kosciusko County with this critical economic and cultural resource. Responsibilities and duties for the center include the following:
1. Cultivating a holistic view of sustainability that includes environmental stewardship and Biblical faith.
2. Fostering a strong collaboration with community partners.
3. Integrating students with local agricultural opportunities to ensure job readiness.

In additional to leading the Center and its staff, the candidate would be responsible for overseeing agricultural programming within the School of Arts & Sciences, including developing new sustainable agriculture coursework in keeping with the rapid advances in this field. Moreover, the successful candidate will manage and create internship opportunities for students within the area’s rich selection of agricultural businesses and farms. The candidate would also need to actively integrate faith in learning and mentoring of students in order to support the overall mission of the College.

This is a dual appointment position falling under the College’s Advancement division (Center) and the Department of Science and Math (Academic). The successful candidate should have strong organizational skills with past experience in managing teams of people. Furthermore, this candidate should be able to articulate and implement a vision for continued growth for both the academic program and the Center.

Approximately 50% of this candidate’s responsibilities will be academic duties which include teaching, scholarship, and advising while reporting to the chair of the Department of Science & Math. The candidate should have past evidence of scholarship in agriculture, with a research plan that will enable them to continue to be a meaningful contributor in the field within the context of Grace College. Given the newness of this academic program, the candidate will also need to be actively involved in the recruiting of new students and retention of existing students in order to grow and sustain the program.

Education & Experience:

1. A PhD in Agricultural Science (preferred) or a PhD in another related agricultural field (required).
2. Evidence of successful community collaboration.
3. Demonstrated proficiency in good financial stewardship.
4. Track record of fundraising success in the form of grant writing and/or individual donors.
5. A history of applying modern pedagogy in the classroom, including documented use of active learning techniques.
6. A 5-year research plan which includes the ability to engage students in these activities.
7. Well-developed communication skills with a disposition that positively reflects their Christian faith.
8. A desire to work across departments, schools and the College to accomplish aims of the Science & Math Department.
