Job Description: 

The Edible Schoolyard provides a hands-on learning, sensory experience to students through garden and kitchen classrooms. Our goal is to help every child fall in love with fresh, seasonal produce.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Duties and Responsibilities:
(Include but are not limited to)

-Work closely with the ESYKC Program Director to develop program goals and communicate them to Educators
-Create and facilitate professional development offerings
-In collaboration with GFEF HR Staff, develop a talent plan that includes interns and volunteers and ongoing professional development
-Research additional outreach/educational programs including but not limited to: parent nutrition and cooking or garden classes
-Act as an educational consultant for partner sites and projects as needed

Site Manager:
-Provide leadership, training and supervision to ESY educators
-Manage the production of the garden in tandem with garden and kitchen needs; meet regularly with educators to coordinate plantings and harvests in tandem with lesson plans
-Work with the Educators to implement and improve delivery of ESYKC curriculum
-Helps maintain garden and kitchen facilities and equipment
-Manage Edible Schoolyard budget
-Facilitate weekly staff meetings and garden walk-throughs with staff
-Helps with garden work as needed
-Teaches when needed in the kitchen or garden classroom
-Attend and participate in all staff and budget meetings, and scheduled ESYKC/GFEF professional development days

-Attend school-wide and community functions (i.e.: Open House, Showcase Night etc.)
-May be required to participate in offsite events
-Maintain healthy relationship with BV Elementary, GFEF, ESYKC Staff and community partners
-Represent ESY program to wider community (i.e.: giving tours of ESY, public speaking engagements, off site community events)

Education & Experience: 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Extensive knowledge of all aspects of Edible Schoolyard Kern County
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present information to a variety of constituents including students, parents, teachers, volunteers, and community partners
-Ability to interact positively and effectively with a variety of constituents
-Commitment to continuous improvement through reflection and feedback
-Strong organizational skills
-Ability to drive, possession of a valid California Driver’s License and clean driving record.

Required Education and Experience:
-3-5 years’ experience in education, preferably experiential learning
-Experience working on a small scale farm
-Bachelor degree in Agriculture, Education or Liberal Arts preferred.
-Competency with common computer applications, including Google Drive, DropBox, etc
-Experience working with elementary school aged students is a plus
