SPACE on Ryder Farm, a nonprofit residency program and organic farm in Brewster, New York, is seeking a full-time Facilities Manager to begin work on May 4th, 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. As a newly created role in SPACE’s 2020 season, the Facilities Manager will oversee the day to day maintenance and repairs of the property as well as assist the farming operation.

***Please note that while SPACE on Ryder Farm has been deemed an essential business by the Governor of New York, employment in the age of the Coronavirus looks very different than in other years. SPACE is working tirelessly, hand in hand with our employees, to ensure all those working at the farm and supporting the public in accessing food will have all possible safety measures in place including the provision of any and all PPE materials requested by staff members. In addition, SPACE will work with the new employee to ensure adequate materials are provided so a work-from-home environment is accessible and appropriate when such an environment needs to be utilized.****

Duties & Responsibilities: 


FACILITIES, EQUIPMENT and LANDSCAPING: SPACE on Ryder Farm is located on an 127 acre property. The property includes two housing structures, roadside farm stand, CSA pickup quarters, 3 greenhouses, multiple work spaces both for SPACE’s resident artists and SPACE’s farm team, 3 acres of active growing fields, a large ‘Bowling Green’ lawn, half a mile of lake frontage, as well as numerous acres of woodlands and pastures. While the Facilities Manager will oversee the continued maintenance of the entire property, specific job functions include but are not limited to the following:

Tend to the physical needs of SPACE’s structures and regularly perform or oversee maintenance and installation jobs as well as repairs;

Regularly check community spaces to identify issues with litter, mechanical failure or breakdowns;

Coordinate with vendors, to schedule and oversee larger maintenance and repair projects;

Responsible for ensuring the daily cleanliness of SPACE’s various facilities including: housing structures, growing fields, work spaces and lake area;

Regularly perform various landscaping tasks including the weekly lawn and garden bed care on SPACE’s main campus;

Maintain the cleanliness of outside spaces such as parking lots and sidewalks;

Provide painting services as needed;

Oversee the maintenance and care of SPACE’s fleet of vehicles;

Ordering and maintaining SPACE’s inventory of house supplies.

FARMING: An early adopter in the organic farming movement, SPACE on Ryder Farm has approximately 3 acres of growing fields in active cultivation growing organic vegetables, herbs and flowers, overseen by our Farm Manager and tended to by our Farm Team. The centerpiece of SPACE’s agricultural program is our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) membership. We are deeply committed to ensuring all those in our local community have access to healthy food. The Facilities Manager will help ensure the delivery of produce to our local community as well as assisting the farming team in routine growing needs.

Serve as the delivery driver for SPACE’s weekly CSA program;

Assist on the farm as needed by and under the direction of the farm team, including but not limited to planting, harvesting and farm maintenance;

Assist in the continued stocking and maintenance of SPACE’s Farm Stand as needed.

Education & Experience: 



Solid experience with plumbing and electrical systems (license desired)

Skilled in the use of hardware tools and power equipment

Experience with common tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills and wrenches

Ability to check blueprints, repairs manuals, or part catalogs as necessary

Proven maintenance experience

Landscaping and lawn maintenance experience

Drivers License and clean driving record

Strong organizational, multitasking and time management skills

Acute attention to detail


Working knowledge of auto mechanics

Experience working with diverse populations including those at all ends of the socioeconomic spectrum

This is a full-time position working out of SPACE’s Brewster offices. Health insurance stipend, paid time off. SPACE observes a biweekly payroll.
