Job Description: 

Midland School, a distinctive coeducational boarding school for grades 9-12, has an opening for a full-time Farm Manager and Educator. Ideally the candidate would have at least three years of organic farming experience and have past teaching experience with adolescents and be able to strike the appropriate balance in running the farm both as a substantial source of Midland’s produce and as an integral part of our educational program. Midland School, located on a 2,860-acre ranch at the edge of the Los Padres National Forest, has been the leader of place-based and experiential college preparatory education since 1932. Duties & Responsibilities: 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Manage & work our 10 acre organic farm, including supervision of farm labor year-round (student, volunteer, and paid)
Teach 1-2 classes in 1-2 sections (subject TBD - agriculture class or farm internship)
Coach 2-3 seasons of Sports/Activities (Farm Sport)
Advising students & supervision duties
Vigorous participation as a faculty & community member

Education & Experience: 

Minimum Qualifications
Experience working and managing an organic farm, including operating & maintaining farm equipment
Hardworking in a physically demanding job
Enthusiasm for working with teenagers
Prior relevant teaching/educational experience
Highly motivated and organized
Outstanding verbal & written communication skills
Sense of humor and friendly demeanor
Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
Successful passing of criminal & driving checks
Health clearance for TB screening

Desired Qualifications or Experience
Related academic degrees or certifications
Classroom teaching experience
Experience with residential educational environments
Other diverse skills and interests to share with our community – coaching athletics & activities, elective classes,

Wilderness First Aid or Responder certification
