Job Description: 

The Ecology Center is actively working to create and promote an alternative food system that is based on the values of environmental protection, justice, and access to healthy, sustainably produced food for all. The Farmers’ Markets Access & Equity Program (FMAE) seeks to create greater healthy food options for low-income and underserved Californians while also supporting small and mid-sized family farms.

The FMAE Program Coordinator works to establish, implement, promote, and incentivize Federal Assistance Benefit use at farmers’ markets, farm stands, mobile markets, and CSA programs across California through the Market Match Program, the Farmers’ Market EBT Program and the Farmers’ Market Finder Tool, as well as nationally through collaboration with the Nutrition Incentive Hub.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Invoicing/Contracting
- Prepare, distribute, and review subawardee contracts.
- Assist the Finance team with reviewing and approving monthly invoices and reporting materials.
- Input and maintain data in order to feed statewide database, fundraise, and grant reports.
- Review and collaborate on partners’ budgetary needs and requests.

Technical assistance
- Provide support and technical assistance to Market Match partners, including training on reporting and invoicing procedures and other program requirements.
- Provide technical assistance to farmers’ markets and other farm direct sites that wish to establish, implement, and promote their CalFresh EBT program.
- Perform some site visits with Market Match partners each year to ensure program and grant compliance.
- Participate in meetings and committees of the Nutrition Incentive Hub to support farm-direct nutrition incentive work nationally.

Communications
- Develop and distribute communications to educate, recruit, and inform stakeholders interested in CalFresh EBT access at farmers’ markets and Market Match incentives.
- Co-facilitate webinars, phone calls, annual Market Match conference, and other meetings.
- Collaborate on outreach materials and strategies with organizations and region-based stakeholders.
- Provide support for occasional inquiries regarding Market Match, Farmers’ Market EBT, and Farmers’ Market Finder.

General
- Assist Program Manager in developing and executing Program work-plan, goals, and objectives in accordance with grant objectives and the Ecology Center mission and strategic plan.
- Observe safe operating practices and comply with organizational safety policies.
- Maintain familiarity with, follow, and ensure staff compliance with all Ecology Center policies and procedures in the performance of daily duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- High School Diploma/GED required.
- A Bachelor’s Degree and one year of general work experience, or three years of general work experience, including at least one year coordinating projects, programs or grants.
- Demonstrated commitment to the Ecology Center mission and vision.
- Proven ability to work independently and exercise good judgment in a variety of environments and situations.
- Passionate about working to build sustainable and equitable food systems.
- Proven ability to provide technical assistance and communicate effectively and courteously with a diverse audience.
- Ability to process documents and data with accuracy and efficiency.
- Proven ability in developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with clients, non-profit partners, other stakeholders, and members of the public.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office-Word, Excel, group e-mail, Google Docs and social media sites; experience with Adobe suite and/or graphic design and newsletter layout is a plus.
- Ability to work independently to organize and perform assigned work on a daily and weekly basis.
- Ability to work collaboratively and in a team.
- Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with a diverse audience even when in conflict.
- Ability to travel to perform site visits.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- At least two years of experience coordinating projects, programs, or grants.
- Experience working for and commitment to building sustainable food systems.
- Knowledge of farmers’ markets and federal food assistance programs (SNAP, WIC, SSI/SSDI).
- Experience working with farmers’ market managers, farmers, and vendors.
- Direct experience with the CalFresh/SNAP or WIC programs.
- Bilingual in Spanish, Chinese, or Vietnamese useful but not required.
