The Central Louisiana Economic Development Alliance (CLEDA) is seeking a Farmers Market Manager to lead the Alexandria Farmers Market (AFM). This Manager will work under the guidance of CLEDA’s Central Louisiana Local Foods Initiative and report to the Farmers Market Program Developer. The position is full-time and will be based at CLEDA’s offices in downtown Alexandria, LA, as well as offsite at the market area.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Oversee the setup, operation, and breakdown of each market
Plan and coordinating vendor layout
Troubleshoot logistical challenges
Vendor Management
Recruit, facilitate application and approval process, and manage ongoing satisfaction of vendors
Ensure all vendor permits and licenses are on file and up-to-date
Maintain ongoing communication with vendors, both as a group and individually
Enforce compliance with market rules and regulations
Implement food access and incentive programs, including Kids Club, and SNAP
Seek funding sources to sustain programs
Identify opportunities to meet needs of vulnerable populations
Safety & Security
Create a healthy, safe, and secure environment for visitors, vendors, volunteers, and staff
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations
Ensure the market site is maintained according to landlord’s expectations
Track and report several market metrics (i.e., collecting data and compiling reports)
Obtain all required permissions, licenses, permits, memberships, or insurances
Ensure market policies are fair, transparent, and up-to-date
Community Outreach
Build and maintain relationships with partner organizations
Develop social media content and contribute regularly to AFM’s pages
Create flyers, press releases, or other promotional materials
Represent AFM within the community (e.g., local media interviews or tabling at events)
Respond to inquiries and address issues in a timely manner
Collect, deposit, and record vendor fees, donations, sponsorships, or other incomes
Ensure expenses are paid in a timely manner
Monitor and achieve budgets and communicate progress to vendors and team
Regional Development
Identify and implement best practices
Contribute to regional farmers market development efforts
Participate in regional network of farmers market leaders

Requirements (things you are able to do):
Understand community-based food systems
Demonstrate an interest or background in local food, farming, economic or community development, health promotion, and/or marketing
Operate Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
Demonstrate experience with social media, event planning, and public speaking
Safely lift and carry 50 pounds or more
Work outdoors in all weather conditions
Drive your own reliable vehicle on market days
