Seasonal Farm Hand Job Description

The Seasonal Farm Hand position at Branch Hill Farm is a part-time position. This position reports directly to the Farm Manager and Executive Director of the CSFCT. All employees’ primary responsibilities are to fulfill the purposes of the Carl Siemon Family Charitable Trust from Article II of Trust’s Organizational Document via direction of the Managing Trustee: i. to provide educational programs to the public concerning the preservation of fields, forests and wildlife;
ii. to preserve, protect, and maintain the fields and forests located on the Real Property;
iii. to preserve, protect and enhance the variety of native wildlife located on the Real Property;
iv. to preserve, protect and enhance the quality of other natural resources and features of the Real Property including but not limited to air and water;
v. to provide multiple public use of the Real Property provided that such use is not detrimental to the purposes set forth above.

This position is seasonal with the expectation that this is a full time job during the summer months. Some farm tasks are weather dependent so this position may require working irregular hours and some weekends, inversely hours may be reduced off season. This position also assists in the preparation of the educational outreach programs that CSFCT sponsors, some of which take place on weekends.

Compensation: This position pays $14 to $16 +/- per hour depending on experience. There is also the possibility living quarters on the farm with a lower hourly rate.

Substance Abuse Policy: There is zero tolerance for substance abuse while on the job.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

.Seasonal Farm Employee Responsibilities
• Meet with ED and Farm Manager on Mondays to discuss implementation of weekly work plan, work schedule, and to submit hours for previous week.
• Assist Farm Manager in all tasks, including but not limited to the farm, hay, woodlands, orchards, livestock, and rental properties.
• Communicate daily about work schedule with Executive Director.
• Assist Farm Manager is maintenance of equipment and assist in routine care and maintenance including the company truck.
• Assist in general upkeep and maintenance of the Branch Hill Farm campus and rental properties including landscaping and grounds.
• Communicate immediately with ED if there are any problems/conflicts with supervisor, abutters, customers, contractors, lessees.
• Communicate immediately to the ED if there is a need for more labor/assistance in carrying out responsibilities. • Obtain authorization of all purchase /invoices from ED or Farm Manager beforehand.

• Keep daily record of hours and submit time sheet every Monday • Collect and give ED all invoices/receipts every Monday

Education & Experience: 

Skill set: • Must be knowledgeable about operating and general maintenance of farm equipment, including tractors, hay equipment, bush hog, lawn mowers, chain saws, pruning saws, as well as the methodology of composting. • Working with equipment is inherently dangerous. This position requires knowledge and implementation of all safety precautions
