Job Description: 

Pasture 42 is a family run, 100-acre, direct-to-consumer, regenerative farm located in the Capay Valley in Yolo County, California. We specialize in pastured livestock including cattle, sheep, chickens, and pigs and also grow olives, hay, wheat, orchard fruit, and nuts.

We are looking for full-time, year-round farmers to participate the wide array of activities that we have going on at Pasture 42. Work hours may fluctuate and are dependent on the time of year and farm needs. Our work is rooted in organic, regenerative agricultural practices, so applicants should have a philosophical and operational agreement with such methods. We prefer people who would like to pursue a career in agriculture and offer the possibility of long-term employment and advancement.

This is a one year apprenticeship which offers full employment through the winter months. Apprentices may be asked to extend their apprenticeship or join the farm as an employee at the end of their year. We are looking for a minimum 7 month commitment.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Responsibilities can include: rotating chickens, sheep, cattle, and pigs in the pasture, feeding animals, irrigating, collecting and cleaning eggs, milking cows, building/welding, operating farm machinery, including planting, mowing, and making hay, maintaining farm machinery, Attending farmers markets, Preparing products for farmers markets. Physical requirements of the position: Applicant must be comfortable working outside in physically demanding environments, including extreme heat. Applicant must be able to lift 50+ pounds regularly.

Education & Experience: 

A desire to pursue a career in agriculture and a valid drivers license and clean driving record are necessary. Must be a motivated, self-starter with a positive attitude. Must be detail-oriented and food safety conscious. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. Exceptional multi-tasking, organizational and time management skills. Experience with farm machinery is a plus but not required

Compensation: Compensation includes hourly pay from $11.00 to $18.00/hr depending on ability. On-farm housing is available and we provide basic board (accommodations and food) to those living on the farm for a monthly fee.
