Agency & Program Description:
Telegraph Hill Neighborhood Center (TEL HI) is a nonprofit organization which provides services and advocacy for residents of the greater San Francisco community. TEL HI provides opportunities for individuals and families to enrich their quality of life. Focusing on low- to moderate- income youth, families, and seniors, we create and strengthen community bonds, provide health and wellness programs, and broaden education and cultural experiences.
The goal of the After School Academy (ASA) Program is to foster the academic, physical and social-emotional well-being of elementary school youth (K-5). The program provides developmentally appropriate curriculum, which emphasizes academic success and enrichment through academic assistance, social development, recreation, art, and a wide variety of educational enrichment activities.
Currently, due to COVID-19, the ASA program has become an in-person learning hub for K-5 students. For the time being, the Garden and Nutrition Coordinator will be apart of a team that supports students in their virtual learning, as well as facilitating gardening and nutrition enrichment lessons throughout the week.
When SFUSD in-person school is resumed, the Garden and Nutrition Coordinator will facilitate a minimum of 3 after school enrichment lessons per week for the ASA program. As well as teaching a variety of gardening, environmental science, nutrition, and sustainability classes to grades 6th-8th, during the school day, through the Beacon Program at neighboring Francisco Middle School.
