Job Description:

Elawa Farm is a historic, non-profit farm located in Lake Forest, Illinois, focused on educating the community on small-scale vegetable and flower production, cooking and healthy living. Elawa Farm is committed to following sustainable & organic growing practices on the farm. The farm includes
½-acre vegetable and ¼-acre flower gardens that are managed both for production and aesthetic beauty. Our produce is offered to the community through our small Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, at our on-site Garden Market every Friday & Saturday from mid-May through October, and area charitable organizations focused on alleviating food insecurity.

Our Garden Apprenticeship role is one where the person will learn the many aspects of running a sustainable farming operation from planning what's grown, to growing and harvesting crops, and selling them. The difference between this role and our internship program is that it runs for most of the growing season, therefore, the person in this role will get a broader range of experience.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The person who fills this seasonal role will work directly with our Farm Manager and Assistant Farm Manager as well as our summer interns and volunteers on the overall day‐to‐day operations of the farm. Responsibilities include seeding, planting, watering, weeding, harvesting, washing, working in the greenhouse, leading garden activities for our summer camp, and interacting with customers during the Garden Market.
