The Garden Instructor will work with the recreation department at the City of Emeryville to provide garden programming to children ages K-12 and to maintain to health and appearance of the youth garden.
The Garden Instructor will divide their time between maintaining the garden and providing programming to students K-12. This is a part- time, year- round position averaging 20 hours/ week. Maintenance tasks include managing the compost, weeding and pruning, making occasional repairs to infrastructure and irrigation, following a perennial plant care calendar that will be provided to you, and overseeing seasonal planting. Some programming resources will be provided to you, but introducing your own creativity and ingenuity is encouraged.
Applicants should be prepared for both the manual labor and childcare components of this position. Although previous experience is not required, it is recommended. Applicants should be able to pass a background check, demonstrate the ability to handle the responsibilities of childcare, and have some gardening experience. We are looking for enthusiasm, creativity, and a passion for outdoor education.
