Uniquely situated on Oak Creek in the heart of Oak Creek Canyon, Orchard Canyon on Oak Creek Lodge is a place where magical moments happen. Just eight miles north of Sedona you will find our remote, tranquil, historic resort property. Here is were our guests escape and relax in the beautiful orchard and garden, strolling through our three-acre heirloom orchard where we have preserved the tradition of Oak Creek apples, and where our garden provides fresh vegetables, herbs and flowers for our farm-to-table restaurant. While not officially certified organic, we follow organic farming standards and practices.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Manage and coordinate all aspects of daily work tasks in a quarter acre diversified garden that has been transitioned to minimum tillage, including planting, weeding, irrigating, harvesting, fertilizing and
integrated pest management.
Manage and coordinate garden vegetable, flower and herb production throughout the year to provide seasonal harvest (March 15th - Nov 15th) for Orchard Canyon restaurant and for guests.
Help maintain creek-fed, mile-long irrigation ditch, filters and pump system operation.
Maintain and harvest perennial fruits such as grapes, figs and kiwis.
Maintain and improve crop plan, sowing schedules, seed orders, and inventory.
Manage daily greenhouse care and production, including sowing, transplant production, manage timely planting and weeding.
Manage flock of 75-100 chickens; including daily egg collecting, feeding, routine coop cleaning, care, and material restocking.
Supervise work tasks and scheduling for seasonal landscaper, individual volunteers and volunteer groups.
Weekly coordination between the Gardener and the Chef to create availability list and harvesting schedule.
Manage the annual garden budget, ordering and repairing tools and supplies including feed for chickens.
Applicant should have a minimum of 2 years leadership experience with small-scale diversified farming and/or market gardening including vegetables, herbs, microgreens and flower production. Skill proficiency in irrigation, crop rotation and greenhouse management, and general farm equipment use and maintenance. Experience growing for restaurants and animal care (chickens) a plus. Light construction and basic farm McGiver skills are appreciated.
Applicant should have excellent communication skills to interact with public and guests. Leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills to function as part of a team.
Applicant should be self-motivated, hard working, eager to learn, have excellent people skills, great multi-tasker, and be in good physical condition.
