Job Description: 

Position in the organization: Reports to the Sr. Product Specialist, Organics

Purpose of The Position: To support organic variety trial activities at the San Juan Bautista research station.
Target Start Date: June 2017

Brief description of responsibilities and duties:
• Planting open field and high tunnel trials.
• Supporting the research station facility staff in trials and plot maintenance. Duties could include weeding, thinning, tomato pruning, tomato trellising, gopher trapping, hedgerow mulching and maintenance, insectary strip maintenance and irrigation.
• Trial harvesting. Tomato harvest 1-2x/week in July and August.
• Trial data collection.
• Collecting variety photos.
• Preparing site for Organic Produce Summit tour July 13-14, including organizing variety signage and trial maps.
• Assist with periodic customer tours.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Profile:
Education / Knowledge: Pursuing a degree in (organic) agriculture and ideally with a background in organic vegetable production. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Skills Required: Professional, assertive and clear communicative skills (verbal and written; active listener). Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Traits Desired: Self-motivator and goal oriented. Values the principles of organic agriculture.

Independence: Performs the position / activities independently under the supervision of the Sr. Product Specialist, Organics.

Working conditions: Works under varying climate conditions and is exposed to outside working conditions, occasional car travel requiring valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Some desk work using a computer screen.
