Job Description: 

Part-Time 30 hours a week; M-F 7 am-1p. One Saturday a month 7 am-1 p.
Potential for growth to salaried and full-time including lodging and benefits.
Starting compensation $23-$30 an hour depending on education and experience.

We’re seeking a market farmer/farm manager who is dynamic, people-focused, and passionate about growing, sharing, and teaching about organic foods, regenerative practices, and local land based living. This person will be growing food and maintaining 2 acre farm, building and managing volunteers on the farm, collaborating with the chef and Healthy Food program that feeds 50 children a day, basic care and feeding schedule for a small herd of goats, coordinating farm day experiences for local schools, farm to table dinners, and other community farm events.

They should have three or more years of experience with organic, and/or permaculture, and/or biodynamic and sustainable farm practices.

Duties & Responsibilities:
• Maintenance of our two-acre urban farm and its growing beds so that they are attractive, healthy, and productive. Includes soil cultivation, digging, mulching, watering, raking, mowing, trimming, weeding, edging, pruning, seed starting, transplanting, trellising, harvesting, and composting.
• Maintain irrigation systems.
• Pest management
• Maintenance of the farm hard surfaces so that they are attractive, safe, and clean through shoveling, sweeping, weeding, and washing.
Plant propagation
• Preparing crop rotations
• Coordinating with chef to grow what is needed for the school’s healthy food program.
• Regular harvesting for the Healthy Food program and all other community uses of the produce.
• Maintain weekly farmstand.
• Run and maintain post harvest processing station
Engaging volunteers and volunteer groups in mutually beneficial opportunities.
Ensuring the safety of everyone by following Health and Safety legislation and guidelines.
Performing record keeping in relation to operating procedures, harvest planning and yields.
Ensuring equipment is well-maintained and seasonally tuned, including necessary repairs and light construction pertaining to maintenance and operation of the farm
Supporting the initiatives and directives of leadership.
Displaying and promoting company values.
Purchase farm supplies and seeds using farm account
• Attending regular working hours and meetings as set by the Director.
Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience: 

Education & Experience:
• 3+ years of experience with organic and/or biodynamic and/or permaculture, and sustainable farm practices.

• Dependable work ethic
capable of and enjoys manual labor
Able to lift 50 lbs
Able to use different types of tools including power tools, hand tools, farm tools.
Fruit tree and fruit shrub management experience.
• Proven record of successful farm planning and harvest management.
• Experience working with budgets.
Experience working with volunteers.
Experience working with young children a plus.
• A valid driver license and acceptable record as determined by Matthew 25’s insurance carrier for occasional travel.
• Working knowledge and/or experience with irrigations systems including drip, overhead wobblers, and hoses..
