Job Description:

The New Agrarian Program partners with experienced ranchers and farmers to offer 8-month, full immersion apprenticeships in regenerative agriculture. Mentors in the program are dedicated stewards of the land; practice intentional, regenerative methods of food or fiber production; provide excellent animal care; and are skilled and enthusiastic teachers. Apprenticeships are currently available in Colorado and Montana. A majority focus on regenerative ranching and livestock production, and all are based in the dryland West. Mentors hire apprentices as employees (on payroll and with workers compensation), and provide housing and partial board. The New Agrarian Program provides mentors and apprentices in the program with training and support throughout the season. NAP leads a series of monthly supplemental education calls, convenes apprentices at several in-person workshops and events during the season, and provides apprentices with an education and travel stipend. Graduation is celebrated at Quivira's annual Regenerate conference.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Exact duties and responsibility vary by site. Apprentices spend more than 80 percent of their scheduled time on the host operation working alongside their mentor or, as their learning progresses, engaging in more independent activities. Apprentices take part in all activities necessary for the daily operation of the ranch or farm. Basic, repetitive tasks are balanced with new and increasingly challenging work to enable the development of higher-level skills and to further apprentice learning.

Education & Experience:

The program is best suited to those who have a sincere interest in a career in agriculture. That being said, prior ranching or farming experience is not required!
