Spoon Full Farm is loyal to soil. With rotational grazing and no-till garden practices, we build soil while growing the highest quality food possible for our CSA members and market customers. The farm is located in sunny Thorp, Washington, on 240 acres, ~90 of which are irrigated with Yakima River water. We produce grass-fed beef and lamb, raw wildflower honey, and our renowned probiotic hot sauce, called Sun Sauce.
The operations manager will be responsible for maintaining the things that make our production operations tick, including irrigation, infrastructure, equipment, tools, and barns and other facilities. The operations manager will also assist the livestock and marketing managers to set up and improve efficient systems.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Oversee maintenance and repair of infrastructure, equipment, and landscape.
Ensure SFF standards are met in terms of ecological practices, product quality, and personnel happiness
Ensure that the physical space on the farm reflects the quality of the brand
Ensure that barns and other farm buildings are kept in an orderly manner and maintain an organized inventory of all equipment
Create a regular schedule to check on the condition of all structures on property
Assist livestock and marketing managers on infrastructure/system projects
Other duties as assigned or as arise, including potential future infrastructure projects
Walk-in freezer, compost toilet, additional fencing, etc.
Pasture co-management and irrigation
Manage irrigation system - check for and troubleshoot issues
Coordinate with Livestock Manager for pasture’s hay production and weed management
Coordinate with Livestock Manager to implement pastures’ irrigation schedule
Maintain irrigation improvements and maintenance to optimize efficiency and productivity of the garden
Assist in creation and implementation of weed management system to minimize habitat for voles and to eliminate weed pressure on our crops
Assist garden manager with 2021 garden plans. (Not yet finalized.)
Mow and maintain 1 acre orchard
Carry out 2 acre expansion by planting cover crops in uncultivated area and prepare site for future tree plantings
Maintain orchard irrigation
Participate in weekly staff meetings and monthly board meetings
Ensure all staff adhere to health and safety regulations; reporting incidents to appropriate parties in a timely manner
Check in with landowner frequently, updating on current projects and farm needs
Create SOP for the honey management
Oversee communication for timing of bees arriving and leaving the farm annually
Create and maintain adequate storage system for honey
Jar honey so it is available to sell at markets and webstore
Minimum 2 years experience working in agricultural production environments or equivalent. Livestock experience is a plus.
Experience with operating, maintaining, and repairing equipment, machinery and power tools.
A self-starter attitude, with the ability to get things done with little supervision.
Must be comfortable living in a rural area, several miles outside of a mid-size town.
A detail-oriented approach, with considerable attention to order, cleanliness, and an ongoing commitment to improving systems and practices.
Must be willing to maintain a flexible work schedule, working weekends and evenings when needed.
Problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing conditions.
A willingness and ability to work outdoors in all types of weather.
A calm, grounded presence. Humility and a good sense of humor.
Ability to operate a large tractor.
Ability to regularly lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
