Job Description: 

Mixed Greens Preschool is currently seeking an inspired and innovative Early Childhood Educator to take over our Organic Gardening Program at our Farmstead campus this Fall! This is your chance to be a part of something awesome and exciting...bring your creativity!

Mixed Greens is a Mixed Age, Green Certified program, serving 2-6 year olds in Santa Rosa since 2010. We are environmentally focused, and highly inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, constructing emergent curriculum based on the interests of the Children.

Gardening Teacher Qualifications
• Love for children and nature, flexibility, RELIABILITY, sense of humor!
• Knowledge of & Experience with Organic Gardening / Farming Practices
• Ability to maintain a dynamic garden throughout seasonal changes
• Self-Directed and physically able to upkeep our beautiful and functional gardens
• Experience working with young children…Ideas on how to guide them to expand upon inquiries and project work through environmental learning
• Preferred 1+ years’ experience in an Early Childhood Education setting
• Willing to be a part of a close-knit, fun faculty team, and participate in Professional Development

• Schedule: Approx. 15 hrs/wk (flexible for right candidate)
9am-1pm (ish) M-Th + Garden Maintenance time

ALL POSITIONS REQUIRE:
• Must successfully pass a LiveScan Criminal Background Clearance
• Must pass a Health Screening and TB test before hire
• Current EMSA CPR and First Aid certification (we can help you attain this if need be)
• Must be an enthusiastic, energetic, team player!
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people within our community
• Excellent communication skills
• Bilingual in Spanish a plus
• Basic computer competencies
• Classroom and playground supervision, as well as standard child care, basic cleaning, and lots of cuddles are also important elements of this job!
• Able to lift a child weighing 40 pounds throughout the day
• DTaP, MMR, and Flu vaccinations or waiver

*Knowledge of the Reggio Emilia Approach a huge plus!
Positive Attitude, Flexibility, and Team Approach a must!
Pay DOE, but within competitive range of local preschools, beginning at 16/hour.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

• Share knowledge of & experience with Organic Gardening/ Farming/ Food Growth Practices with children in a Developmentally Appropriate fashion.
• Guide children through safe plant use and ingestion. Be aware of and minimize unsafe environmental elements.
• Maintain a dynamic, healthy, and aesthetically pleasing garden throughout seasonal changes.
• Self-Directed and physically able to upkeep our beautiful and functional gardens.
• Support children’s explorative experiences in the Garden; guide and expand upon their understanding through project work and environmental learning.

Education & Experience: 

• Knowledge of & Experience with Organic Gardening / Farming Practices

• Experience working with young children…Ideas on how to guide them to expand upon inquiries and project work through environmental learning

• Preferred 1+ years’ experience in an Early Childhood Education setting
