Produce Farm Manager – Start Date: 1/10/22

The Produce Farm Manager is responsible for managing production gardens, producing vegetables, and leading farming staff at Confluence Farms. This position will lead all aspects of vegetable production. The Produce Farm Manager will be assisted by other full-time staff members and farm hands. This position is responsible for setting the pace in the gardens, delegating tasks, and collaboratively keeping farm staff organized and aligned to short-term and long-term goals. This position will assist in designing, implementing, and managing all produce farming projects at Confluence Farms. The position will also work with our community partners to produce according to mutually agreed upon needs, and lead volunteer events.

Confluence Farms is a dynamic and growing regenerative (agri)culture organization in St. Louis, Missouri. The mission at Confluence Farms(CF) includes growing produce to serve low income/low access communities, providing land access and support for emerging farmers, healing land damaged by decades of row cropping, and community engagement to bring people back to nature. CF sits on 240 acres of land with a focus area contained in a 7-acre parcel with plenty of room to grow. The land has 1/2 mile of Missouri River frontage and features hilly topography with forests and fields, including panoramic views of the entire region. Work at CF is a culturally diverse experience and includes close community partnerships. An eagerness to learn, be challenged, grow, and contribute to a meaningful mission is a must.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

This is a full-time 40 hour per week, 5 days per week position.
Soil preparation, seeding, planting, weeding, mulching, irrigating, fertilizing, harvesting and processing, tractor work, maintaining existing growing spaces, designing and building new growing spaces, crop planning, budgeting, materials acquisition.
This position will work closely with emerging farmers at Confluence Farms on field strategies, crop planning, and ecological farming techniques.

Education & Experience: 

Confluence Farms is seeking an experienced produce farmer who values positivity, team building, leadership, fun, and hard work (heavy lifting required regularly). A minimum of 3 years of experience leading market farming and regenerative agriculture work is a must. Applicants should have proficiency with tractors, BCS walk behind tractor, market farming tools, power tools, irrigation systems, and human-scale market farming techniques. Applicants must demonstrate strong leadership capabilities and bring competency in diversity and inclusion work.
