SoMar Farms is looking to add a hardworking and dedicated member to our team. We are a grass fed and finished beef ranching operation, and our properties are situated between Petaluma and Tomales. We are in the process of healing the landscape here through proper grazing practices and land restoration efforts. By working to stop upland erosion, slow the flow of water, eradicate invasive plants, we’re hoping to bring the land to its full potential and restore the local ecosystem. We’re also engaging in environmental work through carbon farming and other regenerative agriculture practices.
We are looking for someone who is interested in this work to lead our land maintenance and restoration efforts.
Part or full time work is available, with a minimum commitment of 24 hours per week. Must be able to occasionally work on Saturdays. Position is paid hourly, compensation depends on experience. We do not have housing available at this time.
Work will include creek bed restoration and watershed improvement, invasive weed management, and composting and seeding efforts. Work may also include repairing structures on our property, and improving the grounds that surround residential areas.
This position will report to and work directly with the property manager, and many of the hours will be spent working solo without supervision. Applicant must be a hardworking self starter, reliable, responsible, and available on a consistent basis.
The position requires a lot of physical work and applicants must be able to work long days outdoors; lifting up to 70 pounds, bending over, squatting, hauling, and hiking. Applicants must be comfortable using tools and running light and heavy machinery. Though some training is available, experience using and maintaining the following tools is a plus: Weed whacker, brush hog, chainsaw, skid steer/loader, and backhoe.
Please send a resumé to email@example.com and a brief cover letter describing your interest in the position, and feel free to reach out with any questions.
