Duties & Responsibilities: 

The Schoolyard Roots (SYR) Program Director leads all aspects of our hands-on, garden-education programs. As the
Program Director, you will support and oversee the SYR Education Team’s delivery of our innovative garden-based
curriculum across all our partner schools. You will oversee the day-to-day management of the program, including
building and sustaining positive relationships with our partner schools, and you will be entrusted with guiding the vision
of the program. The Program Director will also lead the education team in creating positive relationships with
stakeholders across our schools and community, oversee programmatic documentation and evaluation, lead our efforts
to integrate garden-based instruction into the daily activities at each of our partner schools, and represent our

Education & Experience: 

This work requires a high degree of self-reliance, confidence, and initiative both at the school-level and within the SYR
education team. A successful candidate must possess extraordinary professionalism, flexibility, intuitiveness,
organization, and communication skills.

Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Education, Environmental Studies/Science or a related field OR 4 years of
experience in an education field OR comparable experience.
• 3-5 years' experience teaching and/or coordinating programming in a hands-on, experiential-based educational
program.
• Experience working with elementary aged students required. Experience using student-centered teaching
techniques highly desired.
• Experience managing staff and volunteers required. Experience coaching and mentoring staff highly desired.
• Experience growing and managing organic vegetable gardens.
• Strong enthusiasm for experiential, sensory education, with an emphasis on garden-based, outdoor education
required.
• Experience working with populations from varying socio-economic backgrounds, including historically marginalized
communities.
• Working knowledge of basic computer programs including Office 365.
