The National 4-H Council is building strong corporate partnerships to help solve some of today’s biggest issues – workforce development, mental health, climate, the digital divide – all while ensuring greater diversity, equity and inclusion in our programs and communities. The Senior Director, Corporate Development will lead the corporate and foundation partnerships team to drive $20M - $30M annually that includes a coordinated solicitation of corporate grants, cause marketing and employee engagement opportunities. The Senior Director, Corporate Development also works in partnership with the Vice President of Development, Account Management, Operations and Mission to Market teams to successfully implement the Resource Development operational plan. This role strategizes and contributes to all areas of the Resource Development team including planning, cultivation, new business development, donor deliverables, board solicitation, and reporting. The Senior Director, Corporate Development will also initiate, solicit, and close major national corporate and foundation funding partnerships and promotions to support Council’s Strategic Plan.
Development Portfolio Duties
• Lead the Corporate and Foundation team to secure $20M - $30M annually aligned to the 4-H System and National 4-H Council needs.
• Responsible for personally maintaining 3-5 major accounts ($8M - $10M per year) to achieve annual corporate fundraising goals to support programmatic expansion in support of Positive Youth Development (PYD).
• Lead the Corporate and Foundation team to drive new business development through pipeline creation and cultivation developing 360-degree partnerships that involve employee engagement, local impact, thought leadership and storytelling, as appropriate.
• Develop and maintain knowledge of corporate giving interests, staffing and trends.
• Develop and facilitate relationships for donor cultivation, new development opportunities, ensure completion of donor deliverables, board solicitation, and reporting on successful completion of initiatives.
• Engage Board of Trustees (Board) members with partnerships as applicable.
Cross-Functional Collaboration Duties
• Partner with cross-functional teams to align packaging and sales strategies across the four verticals – scalable programs, PYD events, PYD academies and hybrid PYD.
• Work with Research and Corporate Writer for high-quality donor proposals and communications.
• Partner with Account Management and Marketing counterparts to solve for cross- functional challenges, identify opportunities to integrate work and ensure seamless execution of partnership activations.
Strategic Communications Duties
• Develop Resource Development updates for the Board in partnership with the Vice President of Development and Chief Development Officer.
• Monitor activity via reports and frequent customer contact.
• Lead and supervise other projects as required by Vice President of Development.
• Create and manage the Resource Development operational budget (300-000).
• Administer and manage policies, standards, practices, and security measures to assure effective and consistent department operations.
• Recruit, hire, train, supervise, mentor, evaluate and develop assigned Associates according to Council’s policies and procedures, ensuring the overall smooth functioning of the department, and consulting appropriate Human Resources staff as indicated.
• Create growth opportunities for other Resource Development team members through site visits, mentoring, shadowing and other opportunities.
• Ensure alignment of team to 4-H mission and organizational goals.
• Perform standard administrative and supervisory administrative duties including, but not limited to weekly scheduling, timesheets and expense reports.
Skills and Qualification
• Must display a growth mindset, team-first outlook and be motivated by a passion for impacting youth.
• Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, public administration, business administration, sales management, or related discipline, or equivalent in work experience (master’s degree preferred).
• A minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible work in planning, managing, and initiating relationships between corporate and non-profit sectors.
• A minimum of 8 years’ experience in successful corporate fundraising.
• At least 5 years’ experience working with high-level corporate representatives and volunteer Board members.
• Experience with strategic use of fundraising database software, preferably Microsoft Dynamics.
• Knowledge or experience with 4-H or Cooperative Extension is a plus.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize while working in a fast-paced environment.
Travel Requirements: This position may require travel for up to 25% of the time (local, regional, national) by air, car, and/or rail.
