Job Description: 

The Friends of Holly Hill Farm, Inc. is a nonprofit, educational farm that grows and sells certified organic vegetables, herbs and flowers in coastal Cohasset, MA, 20 miles south of Boston. Growing takes place on 2 of our 5 acres, utilizing 3 high tunnels and 2 caterpillar tunnels for year-round production. Sales take place at our historic barn farm stand, farmers market and online for pickup at the farm. The Spring Plant Sale is a major source of our annual revenue. Our education department depends upon the farm providing seedlings for school gardens and our onsite education garden. The Farm Managers must make decisions that uphold the mission of the Friends Holly Hill Farm including but not limited to a commitment to regenerative no-till agriculture, our community and our environment.

We are looking for TWO FARM MANAGERS.
1. Farm Manager for Field Operations (see below)
2. Farm Manager for Sales and Greenhouse Operations (see below)
The Co-Farm Managers’ major responsibility is all aspects of the farm’s certified organic vegetable, herb and flower growing and sales operations. Management of full and part time staff includes the recruitment, training, and supervision of seasonal and year-round employees. The Farm Manager is responsible for working with the Education staff to provide seedlings and activities that coordinate with the seasonal programs on and off the farm. The farmhouse has a certified kitchen for food prep from crops gleaned from the farm to either be donated to local food pantries or sold in the farm stand.
This is a full-time job that requires a commitment to farming and to the active community who support the farm. Interaction with the public as an educational farm is an important perspective to consider along with production farming. Oversight of the 5.23 acres that we lease includes an awareness of our farm animals, visitors to the farm and the general condition of the property. The Friends of Holly Hill Farm is a welcoming community.
Qualifications: High School Diploma, 5 years’ experience of employment on a farm. One manager must have a Food Safety Course certification. Enthusiasm and passion for the mission.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Job Overview Job Title: Farm Manager - Sales and Greenhouse Operations
Reports To: Executive Director, Board of Directors, Other Farm Manager

The major responsibility of this position is the management of all aspects of the farm’s certified organic vegetable and flower growing operations. Due to the breadth of this position the major responsibilities are shared between two farm managers - the Sales and Greenhouse Operations manager has the primary responsibility for all aspects of seedling propagation, post harvest management, direct to consumer sales at the plant sale, farm stand, and farmers market. In this position the sales and greenhouse manager must make decisions that uphold the mission of Holly Hill Farm including but not limited to a commitment to regenerative agriculture, our community, and our environment.

Responsibilities and Duties:

● Management of all plant propagation activities including seeding and care of plants for the farm, education department and annual plant sale
● Responsible for planning and execution of the annual plant sale
● Management of farm sales including on and offsite markets and wholesale accounts
● Management of on site farmstand including merchandising, procurement of produce and pantry items from other vendors, inventory records, and pricing.
● Responsible for weekly vegetable, flower and herb harvest including selection and post harvest handling.

These areas are shared with the Field Operations Manager:
● Responsible for seasonal farm chores including snow removal, watering, and greenhouse temperature management
● Participation in maintenance of driveways, barns and sheds, fields, woods and trails including plowing and shoveling of snow for winter access to buildings and animals
● Coordination with co-manager to create and implement a yearly crop plan and greenhouse schedule as well as the weekly development of activities and schedules
● Participation in the farm’s community including planning meetings and events as well as coordination of weekly farm activities with Farm Owner, Farm Director, Educational Director, Farm Co-Manager, and Staff
● Management of the recruitment, training, and supervision of other full or part-time and/or seasonal employees and/or volunteers
● Participation in the farm’s administration including data collecting, record-keeping, and reporting required to maintain organic certification and assisting in the keeping of financial records, making of budgets, handling of receipts, etc.
● Participation in long term strategic planning activities working towards the goals of sustainability and conservation practices of the farm

Job Overview:

Due to the breadth of this position the major responsibilities are shared between two farm managers - the Field Operations manager has the primary responsibility for all aspects of growing produce and maintaining soil health on the farm. In this position the field operation manager must make decisions about field production that uphold the mission of Holly Hill Farm including but not limited to a commitment to regenerative agriculture, our community, and our environment.

Responsibilities and Duties

● Management of field operations including the development of a crop rotation plan, planting schedule, seed selection, soil amending, composting, cover cropping, and the control of pests and weeds.
● Responsible for soil health of all growing fields using no-till practices.
● Management of 3 high tunnels and 2 caterpillar tunnels, including high yield tomato and winter cut greens cultivation.
● Manage irrigation systems including the creation of an irrigation plan and system maintenance.
● Overseeing the routine maintenance and repairs for the greenhouses, machinery, equipment and tools.

● Experience with marketing of vegetables, flowers and seedlings at farm stands, farmers’ markets and restaurants
● Skilled in dealing with clients and the general public
● Proficient in the use of Excel, Word, Google Suite, and the ability to adapt to new technologies
