National 4-H Council drives resources to support the 4-H system in solving some of today’s biggest issues – workforce development, mental health, climate, the digital divide – all while ensuring greater diversity, equity and inclusion in our programs and communities. The VP, Development works in partnership with the SVP, Chief Development Officer to develop and implement strategic plans, manage and develop the Corporate & Individual Giving Development Teams and establish and maintain relationships with donors and donor organizations to support the aggressive development initiatives. The VP, Development will lead the corporate and individual giving teams to drive $30M - $40M annually including a coordinated solicitation of corporate grants, mass and major gifts. This role strategizes and contributes to all areas of the Resource Development team including planning, cultivation, new business development, donor deliverables, board solicitation, and reporting. This role works cross-functionally with counterparts across the organization to develop sales packages, align team priorities and build a collaborative work environment.

Duties & Responsibilities: 


Team Leadership
• Lead a high functioning team of dedicated professionals to grow Council revenue while building the organizational culture
• Direct the planning, development, implementation, budgeting, maintenance and support of all department or unit functions.
• Administer and manage policies, standards, practices, and security measures for all department or unit functions to assure effective and consistent department operations.
• Recruit, hire, train, supervise, mentor, evaluate and develop assigned Associates according to National 4-H Council’s policies and procedures, ensuring the overall smooth functioning of the department, and partnering with the Human Resources team as needed.
• Partner with the Information Technology Team to for the continual upgrading of equipment and procedures to maintain pace with technological progress, economic change, and business needs.
• Ensure alignment of team to 4-H mission and organizational goals.
• Perform standard administrative and supervisory administrative duties including, but not limited to weekly scheduling, timesheets, expense reports, etc.

Strategy Development
• Lead and conduct planning activities to develop the Resource Development strategic plan, which includes multi-year objectives and initiatives, lead and lag indicators, milestones, metrics, and management reporting.
• Translate the strategic plan into tactical initiatives that are implemented by the Corporate and Individual Giving Teams.
• Lead strategic integration and collaboration within the Resource Development team and across the organization to develop sales packages, create alignment of cross-functional goals and work, problem solve and build collegial relationships.
• In alignment with National 4-H Council’s Strategic Plan, develop the Individual Giving program strategy including but not limited to campaigns, planned giving, major giving and annual appeals.
• In partnership with Marketing peers, develop strategy to maximize database constituents through donor conversion tactics.

Portfolio Development
• Lead a team of Corporate & Individual Giving fundraisers to secure $30M-$40M annually.
• Manage a personal portfolio of $5M-$10M in corporate and major gift donors.
• Manage the organization’s most important individual donor relationships, working closely with the CEO, CDO, and the Board, ensuring timely moves management, effective donor relationship building and strategic solicitations.
• Develop and facilitate relationships for donor cultivation, new development opportunities, ensure completion of donor deliverables, board solicitation, and reporting on successful completion of initiatives.
• Manage existing planned giving program, assess current efforts and available organizational capacity; recommend future strategies and tactics to increase planned gifts.
• In consultation with CEO and CDO, work with board members to implement giving strategies that ensure both increased board giving and fundraising activity.
• Develop and maintain knowledge of corporate and individual giving interests, staff and trends.

Program Management
• Monitor and analyze activity via reports and frequent customer contact on program activities and work with program managers across Council teams to ensure satisfaction
• Manage the corporate proposal development process and other special Resource Development projects, working in tandem with cross-functional teams to ensure acquisition of new business, achieve deliverables, and renew partnerships.
• Maintain effective working relationship with corporate partners’ management teams and account management team.
• Manage and ensure completion of other projects as required by Chief Development Officer.

Education & Experience: 

• Must display a growth mindset, team-first outlook and be motivated by a passion for impacting youth.
• Proven success in creating and implementing strategic face-to-face corporate & individual fundraising of six-figure gifts and above.
• Must have a bachelor’s degree with 10 - 15 years of senior professional fundraising experience and 5+ years of personnel management experience.
• Experience working with Board of Trustee fundraising committees including campaign development, special events, direct solicitation, and stewardship.
• Proven success in database management for pipeline development, annual giving, planned giving, direct mail programs, major giving and donor stewardship.
• Experience with strategic use of fundraising database software, preferably Microsoft Dynamics.
• Knowledge or experience with 4-H or Cooperative Extension is a plus.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize while working in a fast-paced environment.

• This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required.
• This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
• Basic math skills needed to calculate formulas, commissions, discounts, etc.
• Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.
Travel Requirements
Travel may be necessary, up to 25% of the time (national). Would require travel by air, car, rail.
